Just as Donald Trump was being inaugurated as America’s 45th president, Victory Institute staff and LGBTQ leaders were facilitating a session at Creating Change about the importance of LGBTQ leadership at the state and local level. The session – which drew close to 100 LGBTQ activists, organizers, and youth – focused on strengthening the connection between the LGBTQ community and the network of LGBTQ local and state elected officials. After delivering welcome remarks, Pennsylvania State Representative Brian Sims joined Pennsylvania Physician General Dr. Rachel Levine and Florida State Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith for an interactive discussion on the strategies, tools, resources, and ideas LGBTQ leaders should consider in order to successfully defend LGBTQ progress, fight discrimination, and advance equality over the next four years.
