LGBTQ+ Victory Institute hosted its first LGBTQ+ Public Leadership Summit of 2024 in Columbus, Ohio. The program is a free half-day activation event for LGBTQ+ activists and community members who want to engage in discussions around LGBTQ+ representation and how to begin running for office.
The Columbus Summit was a great success with over 50 participants, including LGBTQ+ elected officials from across the region, active LGBTQ+ candidates, and LGBTQ+ advocates thinking about taking the next steps to run for office.
The event was keynoted by incredible LGBTQ+ leaders from the Midwest, including, Ohio State Senate Minority Leader Nickie Antonio, Columbus City Council President Shannon Hardin, Columbus City Auditor Megan Kilgore, Gahanna-Jefferson School Board Member Dion Manley, and Bloomington City Clerk Nicole Bolden. We were also joined by Mary Jo Hudson, one of LGBTQ+ Victory Action’s board members with a long-standing history as an LGBTQ+ leader in Columbus.
The program was generously supported by Paul Feeney and Chad Braun. It was hosted at the Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) with support from president Dr. Melanie Corn. Our program reception was held at Slammer’s, one of only 23 lesbian bars in the country.
We have two more Public Leadership Summits in 2024– in San Antonio, TX (May 18, 2024) and Los Angeles, CA (September 21, 2024).
