The Victory Congressional Internship, Victory Congressional Fellowship, Victory Empowerment Fellowship and David Bohnett LGBTQ Leaders Fellowship are all accepting applications for the 2017-2018 cycle.
Each of these programs are designed to help LGBTQ Leaders throughout the country, in various stages in their career paths. From college students, community leaders, to elected and appointed officials, the Victory Institute has been coaching a network of LGBTQ leaders who can use the tools and skills they develop to move forward the equality agenda in the communities.
The 2016 cohorts have been engaged in their communities – leading student groups, forging policy, and running for office. The second 2016 Victory Empowerment Fellow to announce her candidacy is Andrea Jenkins – Andrea is running for Minneapolis City Council. She explains the role that the Victory Empowerment Fellowship has played in her trajectory:
I am so proud to announce that I am running for the Ward 8 seat on the Minneapolis City Council. I have spent over 25 years of my life in public service of others, in addition I am a poet, author and artist. I want to be a voice the marginalized, disaffected and low-income people in my community. As an out African American woman, I believe that my lived experiences and understanding of municipal government will allow me to bring a committed and unique perspective to the City of Minneapolis. I am so proud to have been a 2016 Victory Institute Empowerment Fellow, the campaign training was invaluable and allowed me to put together a campaign plan and team in just three weeks. I know what is needed to win this election, thanks to the tremendous support from the Victory Institute.
