LGBTQ+ Victory Institute hosted its second and last LGBTQ+ Candidate & Campaign Trainings for 2025 in Los Angeles. It was an incredibly successful program with a selective group that is a testament to the importance of LGBTQ+ representation across the country.
This training we launched our inaugural program in partnership with Advocates for Trans Equality (A4TE) where 12 hand-selected trans and gender-expansive individuals stayed on for an additional 2-days of curriculum to talk about the specifics of running a campaign from the trans perspective.
Below are some brief highlights from the impactful weekend:
- The training had 54 participants representing 25 states.
- 9 of the participants (16%) found their way to the application through another Victory program, mostly our International LGBTQ+ Leaders Conference and our LGBTQ+ Public Leadership Summits.
- 23 of the participants (42%) are people of color.
- 26 of the participants (48%) identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, intersex, or gender-expansive.
- 8 of the participants (14%) are actively running their campaign while 42 of the participants (78%) are seriously considering running in the next 2 years.
We were also joined by a handful of fantastic speakers, including our returning LGBTQ+ Elected Official Trainer Virginia State Senator Danica Roem, former Palm Springs Mayor Lisa Middleton, West Hollywood City Councilmember Danny Hang, and Culver City Councilmember Bubba Fish.
