Brian Maloney is Senior Director, External Affairs at Genentech where he leads the company’s Strategic Alliances team. In this role he oversees Genentech’s engagement with non-patient, third party organizations and major trade associations such as PhRMA, BIO and the US Chamber of Commerce. Since joining Genentech in 2016 Brian has held a number of leadership positions in Government Affairs, including leading the US Public Policy team.

Before joining Genentech, Brian spent 10 years at AstraZeneca where he held a variety of leadership roles in US Public Policy, Global Public Policy, International Relations and Government Affairs for Europe and Russia. During his time in these roles, Brian was involved in some of the biggest policy shifts in the pharmaceutical sector, such as passage of the Affordable Care Act, the European Economic Crisis, and cross industry public policies issues such as international trade.

Brian has also held positions at the US Department of Health and Human Services, Deloitte Consulting and Partners Healthcare.

Outside of work Brian is on the Victory Fund Campaign Board, which is a national group of community leaders who are actively engaged in helping to elect more openly LGBTQ voices to public office. In addition, he is a founding member and on the Board of OUTbio – Bay Area – – the biotech industry’s largest LGBTQ professionals’ group.

A Native of New York, Brian has a Bachelor of Arts from Stonehill College and a law degree from Suffolk University School of Law. He currently lives in San Francisco.
