President-elect Donald Trump has named hate peddler Steve Bannon as his chief strategist in the White House.
Bannon previously served as CEO of the Trump Campaign and the executive chairman of Breitbart News.
Brietbart — an online news source known for its well-documented ties to the alt-right and white nationalism — features inflammatory articles promoting xenophobia, racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and misogyny.
Openly gay Rep. David Cicilline led 169 House Democrats to sign a letter urging the President-elect to rescind his appointment stating,
As elected representatives of millions of Americans from diverse backgrounds, religions, and ethnicities, we strongly urge you to reconsider your decision to appoint Mr. Bannon to White House Chief Strategist.

Bannon and Trump face pressure from various sources who fear his appointment will empower white nationalists and embolden further hate crimes.
The office of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi confirmed she discussed the issue Thursday during her meeting with Vice President-elect Pence on Capitol Hill.
