Earlier this month, the VI Domestic Programs team successfully executed our second Candidate & Campaign Training back in person (and fourth of the year!)! As with Boston’s CCT, we returned to in-person training, extending the training back to four days culminating in final presentations by four training teams. We asked all participants to be vaccinated and sign a COVID-19 waiver, wear masks as much as possible, wipe down mics between speakers, and notify us of their health status.
We successfully trained 29 LGBTQ leaders from across the country! We were joined by our Victory Empowerment Fellows, who joined us a day and a half early for their cohort orientation. They met with Empress Nicole of the Imperial Court of the Americas for dinner (a huge hit), got professional headshots, and then embarked on two workshops on imposter syndrome and fundraising led by Victory Institute staff.
CCT Key Data (29 participants)
- Millennials (born after 1981): 72%
- People of Color: 59%
- Currently Running Office: 31%
- Women: 31%
- Transgender/Non-Binary/Non-conforming/Two Spirit: 27%
- Folks who are not cisgender men: 45%
We are excited about the number of young people joining the training and the number of current candidates. Thanks in part to the attendance of our VEF cohort, our training was diverse along many lines of identity and we are excited to carry that forward into the trainings in 2022.
Participants also had the opportunity to listen to four prominent speakers:
- Our very own Mayor Parker joined our opening reception
- CA Assemblymember Evan Low spoke at our Friday lunch
- Honorable Shay Franco-Clausen spoke at our Friday dinner
- Running as an Openly LGBTQ Candidate Panel
- Councilwoman Lisa Middleton
- Councilman Marcus Bush
- Toni Duran
We’re looking forward to training more amazing leaders in 2022! We’ll be posting 2022 dates and locations in November.
