Washington, D.C.— Victory Institute President & CEO Aisha C. Moodie-Mills will join other LGBTQ movement leaders at 1pm today to discuss a potential executive order by President Donald Trump that would allow discrimination against LGBTQ people.
Moodie-Mills released the following statement in advance of the press conference:
“There must be no illusions that the Trump administration is a friend to the LGBTQ community, because LGBTQ people are immigrants, women, people of color and Muslim – and they continue to attack us all. Let’s be real: personnel is policy. From day one President Trump surrounded himself with anti-equality appointees that demonize LGBTQ people, and it is inevitable their cynical worldview will ultimately drive administration policy on LGBTQ rights, much as it has on civil rights for other communities. Mike Pence, Jeff Sessions, Steve Bannon and nearly every appointee either vigorously opposes basic human rights for LGBTQ Americans or have shown a level of disdain that is troubling for any free and open society.
“We stand with the LGBTQ career civil servants and allies who are determined to push our nation forward despite a White House attempting to push it back. Representation in the halls of power is our best defense against anti-LGBTQ efforts in the years ahead, which is why Victory Institute will be doubling down on our work to train and support LGBTQ leaders as they pursue careers in the public sector.”
The press conference will take place at the Human Rights Campaign, 1640 Rhode Island Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20036, at 1pm ET. Press can RSVP at press@hrc.org.
