WASHINGTON–LGBTQ+ Victory Institute President & CEO Annise Parker released the following statement Wednesday:
“We strongly condemn the acts by Speaker Johnson and Rep. Mace to introduce bigoted and transphobic policies at the Capitol—a place where all Americans should be welcome. Announcing an ill-conceived anti-trans policy, on Transgender Day of Remembrance no less, not only serves to cause more distraction and division but is a harmful stunt with real impact. This policy will harm many dedicated employees who work in the Capitol and is short-sided and dangerous. Voters elected Sarah McBride to represent them, and this will impede her ability to do so. Voters also overwhelmingly said they wanted their elected officials to focus on a multitude of issues to help improve our nation. Instead of doing vital work for our nation, Johnson and Mace chose to shamefully target transgender public servants.”
