Tamara Adrián speaks Victory Institute’s conference in Honduras, 2015.
With the International LGBTQ Leaders Conference just under a week away, we are very excited to announce the attendance of several very exciting leaders from around the globe. The Conference will host four different internationally themed panels for these leaders to demonstrate why Representation is Power. In 6 days, over 500 LGBTQ elected officials and leaders will come together to discuss everything from running for office and the politics of dissent to global marriage equality and marijuana decriminalization. Join us next week to hear what these leaders have to say!
Congresspersons from Latin America will be joining us to give an insider’s perspective on what it means to be an elected official in the region and how they are working to affect positive change in their countries. Guatemalan Congresswoman Sandra Morán, Venezuelan Congresswoman Tamara Adrián, Peruvian Congressman Alberto de Belaunde, and Brazilian Congressman Jean Wyllys will lead a discussion about how LGBTQ elected officials are working to change public opinion, resist conservative pushback, and bring LGBTQ issues to the national agenda.
Victory Institute works with partner organizations around the world to run political leadership trainings. In order to celebrate some of the amazing work our trainees have been doing, several will be showcasing their experiences as panelists during the conference. LGBTQ Political Leadership Academy trainees Laila Oruganti of India, Yanna Vásquez of the Dominican Republic, Mpho Buntse of South Africa, and David Valle of Honduras, will speak about the important initiatives they are taking to advance equality for LGBTQ people through political participation.
Are you as excited as us to hear from these amazing leaders from around the world? Join us next week for our biggest event of the year! Check out the full agenda, and register now if you have not done so already. See you there!
