Robert Biedroń is the co-leader of the Polish New Left (Nowa Lewica) and of the governing coalition in Poland. He is a human rights activist, a Member of the European Parliament in the Socialists & Democrats Group and chairs the Delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community. He also serves as Vice-Chair of the Committee on Development. Previously, he chaired the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality, and served as Mayor of Słupsk. Robert has also founded human rights organisations such as the Campaign Against Homophobia and Institute of Democratic Thought. Never afraid to swim against the tide, he was the first openly gay politician in Poland.
