Michele Rayner is a civil rights attorney, lifelong advocate, and history-maker. In 2020, she became the first openly queer Black woman elected to the Florida Legislature, where she quickly emerged as a fierce champion for underserved communities.

Born and raised in Pinellas County by trailblazing parents who integrated the University of South Florida, Michele was raised on the values of justice, service, and resilience. After graduating from law school, she served in the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s office, where she advocated for those most overlooked by the system.

Her fight for justice deepened when she represented the family of Markeis McGlockton—working alongside attorney Ben Crump to secure accountability in a case that reignited national debate over Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. That experience cemented her belief that lasting change requires both courtroom advocacy and legislative action.

Today, Michele continues to lead with courage and conviction from starting the first Black Women legislator led law firm, Bracey Davis, Gantt, Rayner P.A, —to continuing to defend voting rights, advancing equity, and pushing for meaningful justice reform.
