Victory Institute and GLAAD have teamed up for a #BiWeek Twitter Chat on Thursday, September 21 as part of GLAAD’s #BiWeek2017. #BiWeek is a week of action to recognize the bisexual+ community, including Celebrate Bisexual+ Day on Saturday, September 23. This week seeks to accelerate acceptance of the bisexual+ (bisexual, pansexual, polysexual, omnisexual, queer, fluid, and more) community by educating bi+ people and allies on bi+ history, culture, community, and policy priorities.
The upcoming #BiWeek Twitter Chat will include participation from some amazing bi+ politicians. Joining us will be: Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, the first openly LGBTQ elected governor; Texas state Rep. Mary González, the only pansexual elected official in the nation; and openly bisexual Wisconsin state Rep. JoCasta Zamarripa.
Victory Institute and GLAAD will be asking questions of our elected officials, allowing them to educate bi+ people who may be interested in getting involved politically. The questions will focus on how the current political climate may be impacting bi+ Americans, the advice these political leaders have for others interested in public office, and anecdotes on how being a part of the bi+ community has impacted their lives as politicians. Participants will also be encouraged to ask their own questions during the chat.
The chat participants bring unique perspectives on being a bi+ community member in the political field. Each of our three elected officials have diverse lived experiences that may be both relatable to other bi+ folks, and that shed light on the differences each member of the community faces. In the current political climate of our country, now is as important of a time as ever to be involved in bi+ issues and political advocacy.
Remember to tune into Twitter on September 21 by following @GLAAD, @VictoryInst, @katebrownforor, @RepMaryGonzalez, and @repjocasta for the chat. See you all there!
