Since the first Out for America report was released in 2017, LGBTQ representation in elected office has increased between 5.8 percent and 25 percent each year — a strong pace. Yet LGBTQ people remain extremely underrepresented in elected office, holding just 0.2 percent of elected positions in the United States.
