LGBTQ+ Victory Institute hosted its final LGBTQ+ Public Leadership Summit of 2024 in Los Angeles, CA. The program is a free half-day activation event for LGBTQ+ activists and community members who want to engage in discussions around LGBTQ+ representation and how to begin running for office.
The Los Angeles Summit was a great success with over 70 participants from across the southern California region, including current LGBTQ+ elected officials, active LGBTQ+ candidates, and LGBTQ+ advocates thinking about taking the next steps to run for office. The event, partnered wit Equality California and FLUX, was hosted at The Connie Norman Transgender Empowerment Center in West Hollywood. The program concluded with a reception to allow participants to network and continue building our LGBTQ+ community.
We were joined by a slate of local California LGBTQ+ leaders to share their experiences running as out LGBTQ+ candidates. Our program speakers were Palm Springs City Councilmember Lisa Middleton, California state Assemblymember Rich Chavez Zbur, Monterey Park Mayor Thomas Wong, and Los Angeles County Assessor Jeff Prang. We are always continuously impressed by the work of our LGBTQ+ leaders and are excited to grow the LGBTQ+ representation in the Golden State.
LGBTQ+ Victory Institute continues to put on trainings and workshops for LGBTQ+ leaders looking to elevate their leadership in their communities. Interested in learning more? Visit our website for an upcoming training here: victoryinstitute.org/trainings
