Victory Institute’s Board of Directors has consistently helped drive strategy on how best to build a diverse pipeline of LGBTQ leaders who can be a voice for equality on behalf of the LGBTQ community.
Our 2017 board members are determined to develop new strategies to ensure Victory Institute can train and support the next generation of LGBTQ leaders. Below you can learn more about our new board leadership – John Tedstrom, Louis Vega, Brandon Hernandez and Paul Horning – as well as our newest member Claire Lucas.
JOHN TEDSTROM, CHAIR
FOUNDER & CEO, TEDSTROM AND ASSOCIATES
John Tedstrom is a leader at senior levels in government, academia and business, integrating issues of national security, economics and development, and social justice. He served in the White House where he advised President Clinton on Russia and Ukraine, founded and led major international organizations fighting AIDS and other global maladies, and directed research and taught economics and national security policy at RAND and Columbia University.
LOUIS VEGA, VICE CHAIR
CHIEF OF STAFF, OFFICE OF THE CEO AND VICE PRESIDENT, DOW OLYMPIC & SPORTS SOLUTIONS, THE DOW CHEMICAL COMPANY
Louis Vega is Chief of Staff, Office of the Chairman & CEO and Vice President, Olympic & Sports Solutions at The Dow Chemical Company (Dow). As Chief of Staff, Vega manages strategic initiatives that require cross-functional, business and geographic coordination, provides oversight of executive projects, and leads the team that supports the Office of the Chairman & CEO and Executive Communications for appearances and actions that require the engagement of the CEO and other corporate executives.
BRANDON HERNANDEZ, SECRETARY
DIRECTOR, CORPORATE AFFAIRS, PACIFIC GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY
As Director of Corporate Affairs for Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s Northern California region, Brandon manages relationships with civic and community leaders, and provides strategic direction to help PG&E become the leading utility company in the United States. Brandon spearheaded PG&E’s green efforts in San Francisco, including PG&E’s award winning multicultural environmental campaigns. He’s also responsible for helping to bring solar to prominent San Francisco institutions like the LGBTQ Center, Project Open Hand, San Francisco Food Bank, and the San Francisco Giant’s AT&T Park—the first park in Major League Baseball to go solar. He’s been recognized by San Francisco’s 7×7 magazine as one of the “Hot 20 Under 40.”
PAUL HORNING, TREASURER
SVP & SENIOR INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT, THE HORNING-LINK GROUP OF MORGAN STANLEY WEALTH MANAGEMENT, ATLANTA
Paul W. Horning II is a senior vice president and a senior investment management consultant at The Horning-Link Group of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management (MSWM), Atlanta. As a strong leader and advocate in Atlanta’s LGBTQ community, Horning is the past Board Chair of Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, an active member of Project Open Hand’s Atlanta advisory board, and was a founding member of the LGBTQ Caucus of the Democratic Party of Georgia.
CLAIRE LUCAS
SENIOR ADVISOR FOR PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS IN THE OFFICE OF INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT ALLIANCES, USAID
Dr. Claire Lucas is Senior Advisor for Public-Private Partnerships in the Office of Innovation and Development Alliances (IDEA) at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) . In her role, Dr. Lucas is leading USAID’s effort to expand the creation and implementation of strategic public‐private partnerships and facilitate the Agency’s collaboration with the private sector to achieve its development and U.S. foreign policy objectives.
