#BiWeek Twitter chat recap

September 25, 2017
Mary Gonzalez tweet: "Local and statewide nondiscrimination ordinances are crucial to ensuring that the bisexual community has safe spaces to thrive."

As part of last week’s #BiWeek, we joined GLAAD for a #BiWeek Twitter chat – where we chatted three bi+ politicians who make an impact on their communities every day. Those who participated included Gov. Kate Brown (OR), the first openly LGBTQ elected governor; State Rep. Mary González (TX), the only pansexual elected official in the nation; and openly bisexual State Rep. JoCasta Zamarripa (WI). Some of the topics included how the current political climate impacts the LGBTQ community today, what kinds of policies and policy changes these officials believe will help the bi+ community, and what their experiences have been as openly bi+ politicians.
