Volunteer at the 2018 LGBTQ International Leaders Conference!

Thursday, December 6th* – Saturday, December 8th, 2018

*Pre-conference event at the Organization of American States is on December 5th*

Every December, more than 500 LGBTQ elected officials, leaders, and advocates from around the world come together for the International LGBTQ Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. The conference includes three days of networking and skills-building as we strategize the year ahead in our movement for equality. Our attendees enjoy the sessions and plenaries as they can network with and meet other LGBTQ leaders. Please see below for available volunteer opportunities. We have volunteer opportunities for daytime conference events in addition to nighttime receptions. The receptions have a separate form, linked on this page as well.

Calling all volunteers!

The forms linked below are formatted to facilitate the selection of a role that volunteers would be the most interested in filling. Working a total of  12 hours across the multiple days of the conference grants complimentary registration. One may wish to work less or more than this amount. The amount of hours desired is to be indicated in the personal information section of the daytime form. If you are open to being placed anywhere/anytime in the conference, select the first “Place Me Anywhere” option. If you prefer a more specific role, the conference has several roles that we need volunteers to fill, including Registration, Navigation Aides/Greeters, and Sessions/Plenaries. A pre-conference day of programming is taking place at the Organization of American States, and volunteers are requested to volunteer for this event as well.

REGISTRATION

Those at registration will be provided laptops and/or iPads and they will assist our attendees upon their arrival. They are expected to arrive an hour prior to registration beginning on Thursday, as they will assist in setup. Volunteers will be tasked with assisting our guests in a friendly manner, and they will answer other questions presented. Upon an attendee’s arrival, they will give them materials necessary for the conference and will check them in using the SocialTables app/website. As attendees will arrive to participate in specific breakout sessions, plenaries, and receptions, the registration desk will be manned throughout the conference. Volunteers will also be present to assist with registration at the December 5th preconference event.

NAVIGATION AIDES/GREETERS

We need people to “float” around for certain periods, answering questions, ensuring the conference is running smoothly, and generally just being able to go where we may need to place someone in a pinch. Specifically, these individuals will be placed in certain locations with lots of foot traffic to answer questions attendees may have regarding how to get places. Knowledge of where the plenaries/sessions take place is essential, as well as the registration desk and restrooms.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS/PLENARIES

The prior roles are a single option on this form. This role has been broken up into choose-able options as there are four different breakout session time slots and six plenaries spread across the three days of the conference. Volunteers will ensure that speakers have water/properly functioning AC equipment, that the session/plenary is running smoothly, and assist with timekeeping. They are there to provide assistance if it is needed.
